We love our little kids, and we love our dogs and cats, no matter what they look like or how outrageously they behave. Yet many (most?) of us are confused about what love is, and how to love others! And so we have a multi-billion dollar industry that thrives on that confusion. But what happens if we give judgment a rest, (impossible????), realize there are other ways of seeing and being in the world, (really???) and love others as we ourselves would love to be loved? Can’t hurt to try…
Tennessee Williams
The world is violent and mercurial–it will have its way with you. We are saved only by love–love for each other and the love that we pour into the art we feel compelled to share: being a parent; being a writer; being a painter; being a friend. We live in a perpetually burning building, and what we must save from it, all the time, is love.
