Saturday August 4th Cranbrook
I walked a good ways around Jim Smith Lake and wondered who he was. For breakfast, I cooked up blueberry pancakes with peaches. Then I read for a while and looking at the pine forest and breathing in the sweet air, I thought this moment, this experience is a pretty great life.
I can’t read for too long though, my exploring urge grows stronger while I sit. I headed into town with my bike looking for the rail trail to Kimberley. I didn’t quite find the right parking place, but one that was close enough. It’s an easy biking [path and paved all the way with some nice views of farms, a golf course, a lake and gorgeous mountains. I rode along the trail for 14km and then because of the heat and the fact that I had run out of water I turned around.
(I’ve never seen fishing regulations like this one!)
A swim in the lake was next, and then I found a nearby park to walk Baloo. I went grocery shopping and made a campfire, cooking hot dogs and beans for dinner. Being a “most of the time” vegetarian, I felt guilty over the hot dogs but they sure were tasty. Baloo thought so too. Tonight when I was talking to a friend, I couldn’t remember what city I was in – so many different places in the past weeks. And in each place, I could have stayed and explored much longer, and I think one day I will return and do just that.
