Hello hugs, catching up, laughter,
Long peaceful hikes through
Forests of fir and cedar boughs
And the rich hues of maples.
Followed by fresh baked cookies,
Nanaimo bars, pots of tea.
Playing games, sharing stories of adventures,
Hopes, worries, and dreams,
And dear sweet memories of those
Who are no longer with us.
Steaming green Brussels,
Turkey, stuffing, and yam soufflé.
Hills of white mashed potatoes,
Pumpkin pie with whipped cream.
Time speeds up and suddenly it’s over, way too soon.
Everyone packs away in cars, ferries,
And planes – back to their “real” lives.
The forest paths are quiet once again
As the leaves continue to fall.
But we have our new stories, new memories
To cherish, to hold onto,
Until we meet again.
